Diabetes epidemic is associated with dramatic increase in obesity and risk of devastating complications. Nevertheless, not all people with obesity will develop diabetes, and not all of the patients with diabetes will progress to complications. The question who should be at highest risk group for intensive intervention is still not well understood. This Scandinavian alliance meeting on how to reach consensus is organized by leading Nordic obesity and diabetes experts with intention to plan actions and collaborations how to put into practice scientific evidence on risk factors for future diabetes, obesity and associated complications, focusing on different subgroups of type 2 diabetes.
