«Social Work in Changing Times: Challenges and New Opportunities”

“The times they are a changing”. Always. But sometimes more.

When these sentences are written in the spring of 2022, we don’t know for sure what our reality will be in June 2023. This is a demanding realization. We are in an ongoing climate crisis. We hope we are in a post-pandemic situation. And there is an ongoing war in Europe. What we can know for sure, is that all of this will create major challenges for social work; insecurity, fear, inequality, exclusion, poverty, increasing number of refugees and much, much more. But perhaps also new mobilizations, new forms of solidarity and new solutions: New opportunities. Because in the bottom line, there are no alternatives.

NEWS

The public debate “How wealthy do you have to be to have children?” (Wednesday, June 14th) will be held in Norwegian

The conference committee has decided to change the language of this debate to Norwegian. The decision is made for several reasons:
1. To reach a wider local audience and bridge the distances between the academic discussions, practices, and real-life perspectives.
2) The four members of the panel are all Norwegian. Despite the change of the language, we sincerely hope that as many as possible conference participants, particularly participants that speak the Nordic languages can join us in this exciting debates.

Debattanter:

1.       Christian Poppe, Forsker II ved Oslomet
2.       Daria Incedursun, Advokat og forbrukerøkonom, Nordea
3.       Hanne Glemmestad, Høgskolelektor, Høgskolen i Innlandet, Leder for profesjonsrådet for sosionomer (FO)
4.       Lena Catherine Lossius Westby, Forsker II, NTNU Samfunnsforskning

Debatten finner sted 14. juni 2023 på Ramsalt hotell. Fri entre og alle er velkommen

Nordic FORSA meeting at the FORSA/NASSW conference in Bodø

As a part of the Nordic conference on social work research and education FORSA2023 (eventsair.com), the Nordic FORSAS has a meeting at the conference venue – Quality Ramsalt Hotel in Bodø – at June 14th at 12.00 – 15.00. We – the Nordic FORSA-leaders – really look forward to this possibility to discuss with our members from all the Nordic countries, the work of the Nordic FORSAs. The program for this meeting starts with a presentation of each of the Nordic FORSAs and their national work. Then we will discuss our common cooperation with “Nordic Social Work Research”, which is “our” social work scientific journal.

At last we will give colleagues from University of Gothenburg in Sweden an opportunity to present their plans for the next Nordic FORSA/NASSW conference that will take place in June next year. The reason why we have a new Nordic conference already 2024 is that we will return to the system of conference arrangements we had before Corona made us change when the different conferences are held.

Hope to see you in Bodø!

Registration is now open!

Now you can register as a participant at our conference. You find the form under “Registration” above. Note that the “Early bird” offer is open only until April 15th. In the registration form you will also be able to register for the conference dinner and the different events that is our cultural programme. We look forward to meet you and offer you exciting days under – hopefully – the midnight sun.

THE DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION IS EXTENDED UNTIL FEBRUARY 1

As organizers, we are satisfied that the conference has attracted great interest. Nevertheless, we have found that we want to extend the deadline for submitting abstracts.
The new deadline is set for 01. February 2023. We hope this makes it possible for even more people to complete abstracts that can be considered for the conference. You will find more information on how to submit abstracts by clicking here.

Seminar, June 14th 2023, Quality Hotel Ramsalt, Bodø

“How wealthy do you have to be to have children?”

In this public meeting we focus on poverty matters and child protection. The economic changes that happens throughout Europe, increase the problems of poverty among families with children. As we know long term poverty is a risk for social marginalization and other social problems for all, but especially for children. We know that there is a connection between poverty and child neglect: Poverty increases the risk of such situations. In the meeting we want to focus on these challenges using the lenses of this question: How wealthy do you have to be to have children?
We will invite researchers from the Nordic countries to give introductions to the topic. Then there will be time for a public debate. The names of the researchers are to be published by February 2023

The meeting takes place at Quality Hotel Ramsalt, Bodø, June 14th 2023 at 19.00-21.00. Free entrance
