Our Cultural Programme

As visitors to our arctic city, we want to offer the participants some cultural experiences. These activities start on Thursday, June 15th at 8:30 PM. And lasts for between two and three hours each. It will not be possible to combine activities. You will have to choose one of the three options we offer: A RIB- trip on the fjords surrounding Bodø – including passing through the strongest malstroem at sea in the world – Saltstraumen. Or you can visit “Jekt trade museum” and get to learn a lot about our coastal history – and our most famous local painter Adelsteen Normann. Our third option is a concert with a local band – “5. Etasje/ 5.floor” in a local pub in town. Read more about this offers below, and choose your activity at the registration form.

The narrow straits and steep mountains in the area creates good conditions for the White Tailed Sea Eagle. The sea eagle is the largest bird of prey in Europe, with a wingspan of up to 2.5m! Bodø is home to the largest population of sea eagles in the world, and you are very likely to meet one of these majestic birds along your journey.

Saltstraumen, the strongest tidal current in the world!

Four times a day, the tide pushes more than 400 million of m3 through the 150 meter narrow strait of Saltstraumen. The water reach a tremendous speed, creating amazing vortexes! These vortexes may be as large as 10 meters wide, and 5 meters deep. We take you there, but keeps a safe distance!

THE JEKT MUSEUM – AND ADELSTEEN NORMANN - CANCELLED

Get to know some of the coastal culture and arts from Nordland county. Join a visit to Jektefart – museum, and get both a guided tour and a presentation of the painter Adelsteen Normann. And finish the evening with a light meal and the nature of Nordland at its best.

The Jektefartsmuseet tells about the raw coastal culture, and the story of how the jekts – vessels for freight - were responsible for almost all shipping of goods from northern Norway, and large parts of the west coast for over 400 years! We offer experiences and reflection. You will hear about hardships and life on board, the history of the dried fish trade, power and weakness, profit and risk - while smelling the tar and dried fish.

He was a noted painter of landscapes of Norway.  Normann was the artist who invited Edvard Munch, where he painted “The Scream”.
